AVI file from Nikon camera won't Play or Edit in Avid Media Composer

This guide is going to discuss the topic on how to convert our AVI files which shot by Nikon cameras to Avid DNxHD *.mov for editing in Avid Media Composer.

Question: How to import, edit, Nikon D90 AVI files in Avid Media Composer?
"I can not "import" or open up any of the AVI files that I want to edit. I have a Nikon D90 digital camera which creates video files as AVI files, at 24 fps. and has audio bit rate of 176 kbps mono.

How do I import or use these AVI files for editing with Avid Media Composer? Once the D90 720P AVI clip is imported and dragged to the source monitor it cannot be view only white display is visible...Grateful if someone could help to overcome this problem..."

Avid media composer which is generally termed as Avid is a non linear editing system developed by Avid technology. The software is the market leader for traditional video and film editors. It is considered to the best NLE when dealing with large media. It also comes loaded with array of audio options. Some of the drawbacks are its old school interface, relying on keyboard shortcuts and few others.

The reason you cannot ingest and open Nikon AVI files in Avid Media Composer is simple: file format, but unlike other formats like MP3 or JPEG, AVI is a container format, meaning it can contain video audio compressed using many different combinations of codecs. Some codecs are not compatible with Avid, so you will encounter problems when importing AVI to Avid Media Composer. Then, how do we edit Nikon AVI videos in Avid Media Composer smoothly?

Okay, you need to change the AVI files to DNxHD codec (the most compatible video format for Avid MC) first with an easy-to-use and professional third party software.

After countless tests, I highly recommend Brorsoft Video Converter for Mac to all of you which can help the users to encode any AVI files to Avid Media Composer supported format at super fast speed effectively. What’s more, besides Avid MC, it also supplies powerful profiles to other NLEs, like FCP, iMovie, After Effects, Premiere .etc for Mac users.
