DivX & Sony Vegas- Can I import DivX to Sony Vegas Pro directly

Summary: Here is a tutorial for those who have been having trouble while trying to play, edit DivX files in Sony Vegas Pro; get some tips and tricks.

I've tried looking it up and I can't find out how to get Vegas Pro to load videos encoded by DivX... There were videos saying to download a new aviplug.dll to replace with the existing one and it will work but it didn't for me. I've tried many codecs and DviX is the only one that gives me 30FPS on my recordings, keeps file sizes small, and doesn't give me much stuttering in game. So, what I want is a solution that I can open and edit DivX in Sony Vegas Pro smoothly.

From someone’s shared tutorial I know that there are a lot of exotic video codecs in use and Vegas cannot decode them all - mainly because it would cost too much to pay for the licensing involved, which would add to the cost of buying the program. The two biggest culprits are DivX and Xvid - Vegas can't read these. So you will have to either convert DivX to Sony Vegas Pro easily readable video codec, or record your original video files using a codec/format that Vegas already likes.

Since I stick with my DivX encoded videos, what I can do is to transcode DivX to Sony Vegas Pro edit-friendly format like MPEG-2. To finish the DivX codec conversion, I applied Brorsoft Video Converter.

As far as I know the program is one of the best DivX converter on the market. With it, you can effortlessly transcode DivX files to MPEG-2 or MOV, which will create a Sony Vegas friendly file format keeping the original quality. Besides Sony Vegas, this software can also export DNxHD for Avid, MPEG-2 for Adobe Premiere Pro/Premiere Element, AVI for Pinnacle Studio, WMV for Windows Movie Maker and more NLE systems for native editing.

Convert DivX encoded videos to Sony Vegas Pro

Step 1: Add source videos

Install and launch the DivX to Sony Vegas converter then load source .divx clips to it.

Step 2: Choose output format

Click “Format” pull down list to select Adobe Premiere/Sony Vegas> MPEG-2(*.mpg) as the best video format for Sony Vegas. MOV, WMV are also the proper choice.

Tip - Profile Settings:
In case the default settings do not fit your requirement, you can click “Settings” button and enter “Profile Settings” panel to adjust video size, bit rate, frame rate, sample rate and audio channels.

Step 3: Start DivX video conversion

Click “Convert” button to start encoding DivX video to MPG/MOV for importing to Sony Vegas Pro 9/10/11/12. When the conversion task is finished, click “Open” button to get the exported files and then import the converted DivX footage into Sony Vegas Pro to do further editing.
